Additional information

This series ran from 18 March 1970 to 24 August 1976 on NCRV and contained 84 episodes.

Episode 61

ABBA were interviewed by host Eddy Becker and performed Honey Honey, So Long and I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do (introduced by Björn) in a performance that is usually assumed to be from 1974.

Running order of the show:

  1. Duane Eddy * - Rebel Rouser
  2. Duane Eddy - Play Me like you play Guitar
  3. Marjan Schatteleyn - Mijn hart is er vol van (debut of the month)
  4. The Hollies - Give Me Time
  5. The Hollies - I'm Down
  6. The Hollies - Sandy
  7. ABBA - Honey Honey
  8. ABBA - So Long
  9. ABBA - I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do
  10. Frank Ifield - Lovesick Blues
  11. Frank Ifield - Silver Wings
  12. Frank Ifield - California Cottonfields

NOTE: The guest images linked above are probably from rehearsals and are in black and white.  It seems a strange mix of guests when The Hollies, Frank Ifield and Duane Eddy were all huge names from the 60s, not the 70s.

Information and pictures from this show has been pretty few and far between for many years. Until c.2011 there were only a handful of pictures from this which we now know were actually just dress rehearsal pictures, for example this one of Frida and Agnetha; this one of Frida; this one of Björn and this one of ABBA (note that Frida has no make-up on which is unusual for a TV appearance).

Information about the shows has been released in a book and DVD package called Pop op TV 1960-1975 (DVD & book). Before the book, it was thought that only two performances were made: Honey Honey and I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do but now we now they performed So Long as well.

All early Eddy Becker shows (The Eddy Becker Show from 1974 and this one and The Eddy Go Round Show later in 1975) have been erased from the Dutch TV archive. Apparently TV company NCRV saved Best of Compilations but these were all destroyed in 1976 when the the show finished and the original logs were thrown away when they moved to a new building.

However, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do DOES still exist from this show (but only this one song) and only on a home-made VCR tape, where these images come from.

I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do was also broadcast on the Highlights Show on 24 July 1975 which might explain why only one song survived on video or could it have been broadcast on something like Toppop and salvaged from there?

* Duane Eddy made the following comments to Expressen in an interview published 15 March 1975, "We were in the same Dutch TV show. They did three songs, all of which were good. Amazingly good.”  Apparently Duane Eddy took ABBA as a sign that pop music was getting better after a slump with flower power and drug-influenced music, which he didn’t understand.
