Additional information

Razzmatazz was a music-based children's television programme which ran on ITV between 2 June 1981 and 2 January 1987.

This was the New Year Special edition.

Agnetha and Frida were interviewed by Razzmatazz show host Alistair Pirrie (who liked interrupting them - very annoying!) and spoke about Swedish Christmas traditions and introduced the One Of Us PROMO.

They were promoting both the single One of Us and the album The Visitors.

Footage was shown of a Bravo photo shoot featuring ABBA fan Brigitte Sdun who had been invited along to meet ABBA.

Performances by Bad Manners and Shakin' Stevens were also featured on the programme.

Alistair Pirrie: We have ABBA on the show today. And ABBA, of course, spelled backwards is ABBA, exactly the same. Which I think is a bit interesting. But I know that the girls are very interested in giving Christmas greetings. Can you deliver a new years...
Agnetha and Frida: God Jul och Gott Nytt År från ABBA.

AP: We have little Agnetha and Frida here from ABBA. Listen, I wonder if you could go back to your childhoods and just think about what it was like in those days when you celebrated Christmas and New Year. Was it very different from today? Not that long ago, I make it sound a hundred years
ago...
Agnetha: Well. I don't think it's so much different, as it is today. I remember it as very exciting. It was a big evening, especially Christmas Eve of course when the Santa Claus...
AP: You were excited?
Agnetha: Very excited.
AP: Could you get to sleep?
Agnetha: No, not even I think a week before. I was very tensed.
AP: Because it's very cold out here at Christmas time. Do you do any ice-skating and stuff like that?
Agnetha: Yes. We do that all the time.
AP: Are you good?
Agnetha: I'm not.
AP: I wonder if you could tell a bit about Swedish traditions at Christmas. For example we've got a little goat here which is very dinky. A goat, a Christmas goat - what is that?
Frida: We use it to decorate our houses with. We have them in different sizes. They could be as big as...
AP: Under the Christmas three?
Frida:Yes...
Agnetha: We ride on them.
AP: You ride on them? (laughs) Listen, you've been a bit quiet lately, ABBA. What have you been up to? We haven't heard quite so much about you in England.
Frida: The last few months we have been recording our new album. That will be released... our has been released.
Agnetha:It takes a lot of time. I mean, the studio time doesn't take that long what takes the longest time is for the boys to write all the material. But, this album what has it taken?
Frida: We started February this year and we completed it in November.
AP: So that's about ten months. Frida, in fact, you're getting an award today. Can you tell us about that?
Frida: It's a German pop magazine, the name is BRAVO and they have a competition every year among groups and solo artists and we won I think the silver prize this year. One of the best groups in German.
AP: Congratulations!
Frida: Thank you very much!
AP:: I'd like to challenge you. Because here in Razzamatazz we do a Ra-ra-ra-ra-razzmatazz (clap, clap). Would you like to have a little go with ABBA doing it? All right then...
Agnetha and Frida: Ra-ra-ra-ra-razzamatazz (clap clap).
AP: I tell you got a new single coming out I'm sure it will be just as stunning as that, called One Of Us. Tells us about that!
Agnetha: About the song? It's very hard to tell you about the song... you hear it... You mean the lyrics? The lyrics is about a girl who has to start a new life because she divorces from her husband and it's the feelings or the thoughts she has when she moves into a new flat.
