Björn said a few words on the web-site Sweden.se about Waterloo and the long-lasting appeal of ABBA's music. Sweden.se is an official source for facts about Sweden.
He said:
"We recorded Waterloo first in Swedish and then, of course, in English, the language of pop, to reach a wider audience, a global audience as it was to become.
A friend asked me the other day if his daughter, who is 16, could interview me for her school magazine and I said, "Yes." She said that she and her friend listen to ABBA daily and she asked me, "How does it feel for you to know that generations still listen to your music?"
Well, I thought to myself, as I do very often these days, how priviledged I am to be relevant to this 16-year old girl when so many people from my generation become invisible and feel so irrelevant in their old age.
My very Swedish modesty makes it difficult to say this but, it seems ABBA has had an impact, and reached more peope around the world than I can begin to understand and much less, grasp emotionally. When I wrote the line "Thank you For the Music", I didn't know who I was thanking. I think I just expressed my deep gratitude for the sheer existence of music. And it is a fabulous thing - music."
