In London and around the UK Blue Plaques can be found on buildings of historic significance to commemorate a famous or important past resident (eg. "the childhood home of Paul McCartney"; "John Lennon lived here 1945-1963").
As part of BBC Music Day, 47 Blue Plaques were unveiled on the same day - Thursday 15 June 2017- recognising pioneering musicians and music venues around the UK for artistes such as David Bowie, Lemmy from Motorhead, tenor Alfie Boe and John Bonham from Led Zeppelin.
A Blue Plaque was unveiled at the Brighton Dome in honour of ABBA's Eurovision Song Contest win in 1974.
The local BBC regional news crew covered the unveiling of the Blue Plaque at Brighton, live on air. Benny and Björn sent a pre-recorded message which was broadcast on BBC South East's regional programme which started with Benny playing a little of Waterloo.
Benny: Hi, I'm Benny
Björn: And I'm Björn, and we're very honoured at being commemorated with a blue plaque for our achievement at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Benny: These were days that I will never forget and the Dome was a perfect venue for it.
Björn: And I understand that very few people are given a blue plaque so that's an extra honour.
Benny: So thank you for this.
Björn: Thank you.
Benny: I'll go down and take a look at it one day and also see the Brighton football team play Arsenal!
