A large cast photo call and two large press conferences were held on the day of the Stockholm premiere of Mamma Mia The Movie, at the Grand Hotel, in Stockholm.  Missing from the line-up that day was Julie Walters and Stellan Starsgård.

The two press conferences were attended by different stars of the film and broadcast live online by the two main newspapers - Aftonbladet and Expressen.

  1. Press Conference 1 - covered by Aftonbladet
Attended by: Catherine Johnson, Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Benny, Judy Craymer
    1. Benny was asked about another potential film with an ABBA link - he didn't reject the idea of doing another music-based film project
    2. Reporter asked what a sequel would be - Meryl quipped Papa Mia! Judy Craymer suggested GrandMamma Mia! which they all thought was a great title (laughing)
    3. Amanda was asked how she felt about the depiction of different kinds of love in the film - new love, lost love, failed love, old love, etc.  She commented that the film was the climax of her career - Benny said that it was like winning the Derby with your first horse
    4. Meryl doesn't have a favourite ABBA song - she doesn't think of things in a sporting favourites way so doesn't have a favourite child or film of hers - different songs are uppermost in her mind at different times, this morning it was One of Us, which is not in the film - she sang a bit and it sounded fine. She ribbed Benny that it wasn't in the film and he replied that perhaps it would be in the next one/sequel!

  2. Press Conference 2 - covered by Expressen~
Attended by: Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Christine Baranski, Björn, Dominic Cooper
    1. Pierce was asked what challenges were presented by the movie - he said the spandex and high heels
    2. Bjorn said Benny was more involved in the film, and he was more involved in the show
    3. Colin Firth was asked why he did the film. He said he "couldn't think of a single reason not to do this". He hadn't seen Mamma Mia!. It contained these songs which had the ability to animate people even after 40 years. He said he had watched the Eurovision Song Contest live when ABBA won. Felt like a real sense of event that the film was going to be made.
    4. Christine said there was one night when the shooting had been done when Benny played the piano - 'a rinky-dink piano'. Everyone just grabbed microphones, some had forgotten the words already, but it was magical. It wasn't karaoke as that was Benny playing the piano!
    5. Dominic said he was a secret ABBA fan and couldn't admit it to his friends because he was a 'goth'
    6.  I think it was Pierce who chipped in that there are two kinds of people - ABBA fans and liars.
    7. Pierce was at drama school in 1974 and remembered ABBA winning the Eurovision Song Contest - ABBA were always there
    8. Question about who used the padding in Spandex outfits? Dominic thought he went bareback and commented that you had to use lube to get into them. No padding. Colin joked about handy tropical fruit.
    9. Christine was asked whether she felt jealous that Meryl had all the guys in the film - she said that she danced on the beach with 20 guys half her age, there were days of shooting and rehearsal so she didn't feel cheated at all!
    10. Pierce said that the movie 'came at the perfect moment' for him
    11. Pierce said that from day one and to now they are all friends
    12. There was a question from the floor about whether the cast were surprised about something or other (advance sales of the soundtrack CD???) - they commented that up to an hour ago it was - no idea what the question was because the sound level was so low from the floor
    13. Bjorn said 'yes it's true. It seems that all four of us will be in the same room this evening. That's all I can say'.  That must have been in answer to a question about all four members of ABBA - we now know that they all attended the Swedish première.
    14. Christine said that 'the lyrics to these songs are marvellous'
    15. Bjorn was asked whether it was important that he and Benny were in the film - no, but when he heard that Benny was to be a Greek fisherman who happened to have a piano on his boat then he had to be a Greek God!
    16. Björn was asked whether he had doubts when it came to writing the movie seeing as he had had doubts about the musical. He denied he'd ever had doubts about the musical
    17. Pierce and Colin were asked whether it was true that they were the bimbos of the film. Colin said he saw Pierce as a bimbo a little bit. He said that since Mamma Mia! was so female-driven (apart from Benny and Björn) it could feel a little bit like staggering accidentally into a hen night. Thought it was fascinating for a guy to play roles seen through the eyes of a woman and 'see how we are perceived'

  3. Dagsrevyen, Norway
    Covered the press conference also.
