The Best Ten (ザ・ベストテン) was a popular Japanese weekly music show counted down the top 10 hits of the week. It was aired from 19 January 1978 to 28 September 1989, broadcasted live on channel TBS every Thursday. There were a total of 603 shows produced.
ABBA stepped into the studio through the programme's famous mirror door as all the guests did, and then they were interviewed briefly by hosts Hiroshi Kume (now a newscaster) and Tetsuko Kuroyanagi (still on TV in 2011) and were asked which of them were couples; which is the 'A' and 'B' (Benny said they hadn't decided); whether they liked Japanese food (Agnetha liked everything but raw fish whereas Björn liked it and Frida liked tempura). They were also asked whether it was true that in England they sold 250,000 copies in one day of their latest single and how they felt about it ("not bad!" said Björn).
Apparently the female interviewer (in red) talked incredibly fast even for the Japanese!
Then ABBA performed (mimed) Dancing Queen in the guest spot on this programme known as Spotlight which featured new singers or groups.
It appears to be on the same stage set as the performances of Take A Chance On Me, SOS, Money Money Money and Thank You For The Music from the ABBA Special.
They also used the same 4-colour ABBA logo in the background as used in Eagle in the ABBA Special (blue, green, yellow, red). However for this performance of Dancing Queen (blue, yellow, green, red) they got the two B's in the wrong order so the logo does not quite look correct.
The other guest on this day was Junko Yagami (seen seated here on the right-hand side) and she performed her famous hit called Mizuiro no ame.
