Additional information

Tommy Cooper was a very famous, very funny and well-loved UK magician and comedian who was famous for bungling his magic tricks. He was known for wearing a fez. The Tommy Coooper Hour was a light entertainment TV show featuring jokes, sketches, magic tricks and musical guests.

ABBA appeared performing Ring Ring and was the 1974 single remix with a re-recorded backing and LIVE vocals. This was the follow-up to Waterloo but it only got to No.32 in the UK charts. They also appeared standing before the cameras just before the clip whilst being introduced.

We first saw this clip (apart from when it was originally shown and repeated of course) on the 1993 programme A for ABBA and it has popped up on documentaries ever since. It took several years to get The Tommy Cooper Hour released officially but it finally happened in 2007.

Other guests on this edition of the show were puppet Topo Gigio and ventriloquist Ray Alan and Lord Charles.

Benny was wearing Björn's pink jacket from the Eurovision Song Contest preambles earlier in the year.

In addition to the initial broadcast, this programme was repeated on Wednesday 11 August 1976 at 8pm on Thames TV

Teddington Studios in Broom Road, Teddington were demolished in late 2015 and there are now exlusive apartments built on the site.

Tommy Cooper died live on TV in front of millions of viewers during his act on the variety show Live from Her Majesty's on 15 April 1984 at Her Majesty's Theatre in London. Everyone thought his collapsing in front of the curtains was part of the act. It wasn't.
